In Loving Memory of
Steven G. Radich

Renewing Our Heroes was founded on a simple but powerful mission: to support those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. At the heart of this mission is our co-founder, Steven G. Radich, whose life was defined by service, courage, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Steven Radich devoted more than 33 years to the Fire Department of New York City, serving at Engine 97 in the Bronx and later with the Mask Service Unit at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island, “The Rock.” In his later years, he trained the next generation of firefighters, passing down not only knowledge, but the values that define the FDNY.

On September 11, 2001, after finishing a shift, Steve witnessed the first plane strike while driving home. Without hesitation, he turned around and returned to serve. He spent the next seven days at Ground Zero, aiding in rescue and recovery efforts while his family waited without contact for a full week. Though he returned home, many of his brothers did not.

That experience, and the sacrifices of so many, became a defining inspiration behind Renewing Our Heroes.

In 2023, just three years into retirement, Steve was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma linked to his service at Ground Zero. Given less than a year to live, he fought with the same strength and determination that defined his life, extending that fight to 18 months.

On April 24, 2024, Steven G. Radich passed away, surrounded by his loving family. Steve had a presence that filled every room he entered. He made people feel instantly seen and valued, speaking with others as if he had known them for a lifetime. Whether with close friends or someone he had just met, he connected effortlessly, always leaving people better than he found them. His warmth, humor, and genuine spirit were as defining as his service and are what so many will remember most.

His legacy lives on through Renewing Our Heroes, a mission dedicated to giving back to those who have given so much. This is our promise. This is his legacy.
